More than a fifteen hundred indigenous peoples from around the world send an SOS for the Amazon in Belem, Brazil, on January 27, 2009, at the start of the World Social Forum. Indigenous leaders warn that the Amazon rainforest is rapidly approching ecological collapse and call upon the world to join them in urgent action to save it. Belem is located on the mouth of the Amazon River.
